finished reading Fight and Flight by Scott Meyer (Magic 2.0, #4)

Scott Meyer: Fight and Flight (2017, Rocket Hat Industries)

Martin and his friends discovered that their world is computer generated and that by altering …

I read the book, but I'm almost regretting the time I put to this book. The conflict was even more self-caused than the previous, but with constant reminder that there is not real conflict. Add the stupid long, stupid discussions between the NPCs and you get a terrible book.

finished reading The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #2)

Patrick Rothfuss: The Wise Man’s Fear (Hardcover, 2011, Daw Books)

“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with …

I made a mistake of starting the Kingkiller Chronicles without realizing that the third book isn't out yet. It's apparently something the fans have been waiting for years already.

Robert A. Heinlein: Starship troopers (1998, G.K. Hall)

With Earth embroiled in a vast interplanetary war with the "Bugs," a young recruit in …

The version of the book I have has an introduction by Graham Sleight where he warns the book being controversial. It definitely has controversial content, maybe less on the politics, but more on the normalization of corporal punishment as well as objectifying women. For the politics itself its easy to suspend the disbelief how on this future world we have regressed into such a militaristic environment.

reviewed The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1)

Patrick Rothfuss: The Name of the Wind (Paperback, 2008, DAW Books)

My name is Kvothe.

I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I …

Harry Potter for adults?

I don't usually read much fantasy, but I enjoyed this. The analog to Harry Potter comes from the first book focusing on the main character studies in magic.

Lincoln Child: Terminal Freeze (Hardcover, 2009, Doubleday)

A group of scientists undertake an expedition to Alaska's Federal Wilderness Zone to study the …

Not quite as good as Deep Storm. It's a good monster flick in book form, where Deep Storm was more sci-fi in the style of Prey or Sphere

Lincoln Child: Deep Storm (Hardcover, 2007, Random House Large Print)

Former naval doctor Peter Crane is urgently summoned to a remote oil platform in the …

Reminds me of 'Prey'

The book reminds me of Prey by Michael Crichton. The hero goes to an underwater facility, trying to solve what's wrong with the people getting sick, while at the same time unearthing what they in the facility are actually doing and what consequences it has.

Read it in 2 or so days, definitely a page turner.

Greg Egan: Diaspora (1998, HarperPrism)

Diaspora is a hard science fiction novel by the Australian writer Greg Egan which first …

Science-fiction with emphasis on the science

Kim Stanley Robinson: Red Mars (Mars Trilogy, #1) (2017)

This was a good hard science fiction book. But it's definitely not a page-turner while requiring constant attention. I listened to Red Mars as an audiobook and too much of the book ended up being background noise while I got distracted by everything else. I had a really hard time focusing on the book :/

Kim Stanley Robinson: Aurora (2015, Orbit)

A major new novel from one of science fiction's most powerful voices, Aurora tells the …

This was both a difficult read and a good read. It was an interesting book, while not necessarily a page-turner. It's a book that leaves an imprint on your mind for a while.
