@quaad this has also been on my mind since joining bookwyrm! i wonder if it's more a case of different priorities? like: fast readers, how many times a day do you read? in what situations?

i mean ofc there are blazing fast readers as well, but maybe some prolific readers just read a lot more often, ya know?

@quaad @cblgh aye, I don't consider myself a fast reader, but I slowly gave up video time for reading, and about a ΒΌ of my reading is audiobooks, substituting for what used to be more music and podcasts while working in the kitchen or yard. And I'm always in the middle of several books, so that something always sounds good to read.

@loppear @cblgh I agree with both of you, limiting distractions and prioritizing reading over other video, social media, etc. definitely helps, but I'm wondering if there's something more. I've had attention/focus issues all my life, but if i'm really engaged with a book i can fly through it. I would like to have that same ability no matter the book.

@quaad if it helps, in my case, I automatically read fast. It is Extremely Difficult for me to savor what I'm reading (occasionally I can manage to chew on a good sentence). And it's a problem people don't understand having. Like, part of it is "search engines really suck now" but if you search online for: How To Read Slower all the results are about SPEEDING UP your reading.

So I think there's strengths to both, and it may be best to appreciate what you have

@lapis i honestly hadn't thought about this possibility, thanks for sharing. there are so many good books and interesting ideas that it can be frustrating, whatever your reading style. i'm grateful for bookwyrm and all the good folks on here for making me aware of so many good books, some of which i may actually read.
