Michael then develops some extraordinary powers that compel him to seek New Orleans and to seek Rowan. He finds both, and pulls the tale closer together by meeting people connected to the Mayfair family who now fear Rowan because she is the first Mayfair who can kill without Lasher's help.
Michael dives into learning the history of the Mayfair witches: Deborah, Charlotte, Mary Beth, Stella, Antha, and many others across hundreds of years and three continents. When Michael looks up from his reading, he learns that Rowan has come to New Orleans to attend her mother's funeral. Rowan learns of her family history, her ancestral home in shambles, and Lasher waiting for the next one. Rowan dedicates herself to stopping Lasher's reign. Michael too has his own mission, but it is foggy and unclear to him. But Lasher is seductively powerful and Rowan's gifts offer him the opportunity to achieve his ultimate goal. ([source][1])

A story that could have been told in a quarter the length. Well written enough that when I picked up the book I felt like I was entering another world. But it’s one I skim read through, nothing to be gained from circular flowery writing, pages and pages of characters explaining stuff to eachother.
Necrophilia and rape isn’t really my jam either.
The book endorsement on the back cover of my paperback edition claims that Anne Rice surpasses Stephen King. I do not believe that to be true!
This is quite a long-winded tedious story that could have been much fewer pages. It might make for great movie/series or whatever, but took a long time to get rolling.
This is my first experience with a book by Anne Rice so I will accept that I might have had a better experience starting with some other story. There is a good chance I will not try another book by this author, however I am interested to sample the Mayfair Witches tv series. Lots of space to for the experiences of a hapless husband married to a witch; "Bewitched" anyone? (... I don't think so)
Tiene la nota que tiene porque, en general, es una historia interesante y te engancha. Pero voy a echar pestes porque he terminado muy a disgusto, quizás lo edite más tarde.
Es insoportablemente larga y lenta en algunas partes, la cantidad de paja que tiene este libro debería ser ilegal. La segunda parte, la historia de las Mayfair, podría reducirse mucho. Y en la tercera parte, los interludios de nada que se marca entre las escenas importantes son no aportan absolutamente nada.
No me convence el desarrollo del personaje de Rowan en la última parte, aunque quizás sea algo que tenga que reflexionar. Y la explicación de la naturaleza de Lasher, que la autora quiere vender como algo profundo, interesante y original, es ridícula y echa para atrás. Y todo por la usar un cientifismo innecesario
