Review of 'Saga, Volume 8' on 'Goodreads'

The latest trade of Saga starts off in Abortion Town, and it does feel like the most political instalment so far, showing how there are different reasons a woman may seek help. In Alana's case her unborn child is dead and she's starting to see visions. It's a sad part to this family's saga, although I'm not sure it did much to further the ongoing plot.

Read in 2017, Goodreads has randomly decided I added it in March 2023...

An example of how Saga can also do a looser collection of stories perfectly, compared with the single long arc of the previous volume.

Significantly more upbeat than the last one, with still some beautifully bittersweet moments mixed in.

Man, what an intense volume. Ups and downs galore. After the end of volume 7 I didn't not expect to smile by the end of this one. But damn it, I sure did.

CW: mentions all the messed up crap the series has been throwing at its readers. Too much to list.

Sometimes a book series starts out with mediocre reviews, which get rapidly better as the series hemorrhages readers, and only the fanatics are left.

Saga just started out amazing, and gets better as the series progresses.

At times volume 8 felt a bit let's-talk-about-issues-you-guys, but even then it still manages to balance a heady cocktail of humor, horror, humanity, and heroism (with a good solid heap of the usual hedonism).

Let's face it, though: you know any comic that features a first page splash with a pink-booted anthropomorphic owl sheriff standing under a sign welcoming you to Abortion Town is... Well... That's the wonder of Saga.
