From his cardboard box in the Tokyo subway, connected to the Internet, a clairvoyant cyberpunk mobilizes his friends to avert a world disaster. It is due to occur on a bridge in San Francisco, now home to squatters, and is part of a rich man's bid for world domination.
It's a nice bookend to the bridge trilogy. Gibson creates interesting and somewhat enigmatic characters well, IMO, and this book completes the arcs of some of his better ones.
I enjoyed the wrap-up of the Rydell, Chevette, and Rei plotlines. I wasn't especially interested in the Harwood/Laney plotline, but it did keep the plot moving.
The Bridge, itself, was the principle character as always.
Great finish of the trilogy from the grandmaster of what-will-be. Gibson continues painting the world where, unknowingly to most participants, something big is unfolding. I can't say the ultimate finish surprised me much, but the storyline kept me on the edge wanting more page after page. I have seen the nodal points, I have seen the connections...I just needed to comprehend what I was seeing in front of me. I understood through actions of Chevette, Ridell and Laney. The world will never be the same. Life is change and everyone will see what it means to be human.
