I read Emily Henry's later books before this, so I can understand why some people were disappointed with them after Beach Read. They definitely have a different tone.
I thought it wouldn't like this book, but ended up really enjoying it. It was touching, had me tearing up at times, and the insights on literature/the life of an author were interesting.

Anyway, this one was well written and emotionally engaging and not too cheesy, but tbh I was really just into the main characters' shared backstory that they were super obsessed with each other in undergrad but each thought the other hated them and Gus was such a teenage boy that he couldn't relate to her in any other way than criticizing her writing because he thought that showed that he took her seriously but she just thought he had contempt for her and January was so committed to not letting him know how much she was into him that she just refused to look at him and then one night they couldn't keep their eyes off of each other and BOOM goes the chemistry and then they can't keep their hands …
