2025 was supposed to be my "Year of Series," which did not pan out because even though I read - and enjoyed! - The Fifth Season, it still took me about eleven months to pick up the sequel. But I finally did, and now I'm wondering what the hell took me so long.
Though this one had a narrower focus on events during a smaller timeframe and was more limited geographically than the sweeping narrative of the first book, I was still engaged throughout. There were the obvious passages that served to push the overarching plot of the trilogy as a whole, but there was plenty going on within this second book alone to pull my attention away from the big picture. We have a large cast of headstrong characters that passes the Bechdel test about ten times over and some vivid portrayals of this setting's magic system. And …

Not looking to jinx myself, but I don't think I'll be waiting 11 months again to pick up the next one.
