When Thalia’s tree is mysteriously poisoned, the magical borders of Camp Half-Blood begin to fail. Now Percy and his friends have just days to find the only magic item powerful to save the camp before it is overrun by monsters. The catch: they must sail into the Sea of Monsters to find it. Along the way, Percy must stage a daring rescue operation to save his old friend Grover, and he learns a terrible secret about his own family, making him question whether being the son of Poseidon is an honor or a curse.
Continuing on from the previous book in the series, this is a great book (and a great series) that I should have read when I was in grade five, its target audience. I found this book to be shorter, but not as easy to get into. The first 30% of the book was difficult for me, but I was able to blaze through the end! Overall an easy and enjoyable read.

Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters explores themes of bravery, heroism, friendship, and the power of destiny. It is a thrilling adventure filled with humor, action, and references to Greek mythology. The book has gained popularity for its engaging storytelling and relatable characters, particularly for its target audience of young adult readers.
Libro chiaramente di transizione per aggiungere qualche personaggio (interessantissimo, sia chiaro) e far evolvere la situazione lasciata in sospeso dal primo titolo.

Percy and his friends must find Grover, who was ensnared by Polyphemus and also steal back the Golden Fleece in order to save their Half-Blood Camp from utter destruction. Love the Greek mythology and the characters are fun to watch develop.

I just love the humour in these books and how they make Greek mythology so accessible. I even learned about some mythological creatures I hadn't heard of before. Makes me want to go watch Jason and the Argonauts again!
Ok, so Harry Potter this series is not, but it's decently entertaining. Year two for Percy starts with a bang and the adventure continues without a hiccup, this time seeking the Golden Fleece.
The problem is there is essentially no character development. There is no suspense either because the writing style just lays out flatly (X happens, then Y, then Z... etc). Which is really a shame because there could be some interesting exploration in the world Riordan has laid out. It just doesn't feel like there is much at stake even though supposedly "the whole world is in peril."
However, the ending adds a wrinkle I wasn't expecting. I'm curious how Riordan is going to play it...

The second installment in the series doesn't disappoint. Fast-paced and action packed, the story begins to settle and we begin to see where the plot is headed in the overall series. I especially enjoyed learning more about Annabeth and Chiron's history and based on the author's tantalizing bit of revealed information, it's not hard to see the roles these two characters will play in the end.
