Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (commonly shortened to Alice in Wonderland) is an 1865 novel by English author Lewis Carroll (the pseudonym of Charles Dodgson). It tells of a young girl named Alice, who falls through a rabbit hole into a subterranean fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. It is considered to be one of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre. The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as with children.One of the best-known and most popular works of English-language fiction, its narrative, structure, characters and imagery have been enormously influential in popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre. The work has never been out of print and has been translated into at least 97 languages. La Realidad está sobrevalorada (o al menos a mi me tiene harta)

No voy a explicar la trama porque imagino que todos lo conocen. Me hizo pensar curiosamente en varias películas de Hitchcock, muy influenciadas por el psicoanálisis. Aunque es previo al psicoanálisis 🤷‍♀️. En mi opinión, vemos a Alicia crecer, madurar, volverse independiente y crítica con la realidad que no entiende. Se está creando su propia identidad y cambia tan rápido que a veces ya no sabe quien es.

¿Se sabe si Carroll consumía drogas? Porque tanto comer setas de efectos misteriosos en el relato, me provoca ciertas sospechas.

Existen numerosas ediciones con ilustraciones bellísimas, pero hay otras alternativas. Audio en "Cuentos y relatos" dura algo más de tres horas o leerlo en "La Nebulosa ecléctica". Pd: Me busco ya una madriguera donde colarme. O un buen libro, lo que encuentre antes.

What a difference there is between reading paper copies of books over their digital counterparts! I first read Alice in Wonderland on a kindle many years ago, whilst I didn't enjoy it much I could see it was a clever book, I felt that Alice was a bit of an obnoxious brat who had no respect for anybody else. Reading this beautiful Penguin clothbound version was a very different experience. It was a joy to read, very clever usage of words and riddles and this time Alice came across as a girl with a smart imagination, somebody who finds joy in everything but who gets easily annoyed by the bizarre characters she finds herself hanging out with. I especially enjoyed the Queen of Hearts this time, demanding everybody gets executed and then conveniently forgetting that fact when she needs some friends...I can see who President Trump has modelled himself on.

This was the first read through of Through The Looking Glass for me and it is ok, a very strange story. Carroll being able to create a fantastical story based around a game of chess was impressive, I fear for the next person to challenge me to a game of chess cos I have found new rules in this book.

The longest part of this book was the introduction, it seemed to go on and on, way too in-depth to be included in this book. It starts off quite shocking, the real life relationship between Alice and Carroll would raise all kinds of alarms these days, it was very very dodgy and crazy that he got away with it.

I have enjoyed this and I reckon that maybe Lewis Carroll was the father of Bizarro fiction, I certainly haven't read much that is crazier than this.

Rereading yet again, always fun. I think I was actually in a different edition this time, though. Definitely a book for reading aloud.

I think I'd likely give it 3.5 stars if it hadn't been for the narrator. She did a wonderful job of bringing the story to life.

I was engaged throughout most of the book but there were some scenes that seemed to be a bit heavy on details that did nothing to enhance the story or move it forward. There were also plenty of parts where I had wished more time had been spent giving us some of the feelings of the characters - some very important things that were just glossed over and not really brought up again.

But I still enjoyed the overall package a lot so that's why I went with four stars instead of three and a half.
