Any review won't do justice to this Diary but I'll try to write as much as I can express.

While the writing may be from a childish perspective (especially the beginning), it sure does grow with the reading as Anne admits herself about her childish innocence.
The way she expresses herself in her diary is like talking to a "one-true" friend & that was enough for me to keep reading it.
Loved the way she described life in the Annex, the people, the helpers, and the relationship between them.
As the book progressed I felt more and more touched by her story, her dreams, and her perspective on life in general. In many ways, I felt connected to Anne.

May her soul rest in peace in Heaven.

Having had only a superficial understanding of this book, I was utterly unprepared for how extraordinary it is. Beyond telling the story of a young woman hiding from the Nazis with her family, it is so much more. The thoughts Anne confides to her diary contain complex character studies of her family members and the other residents, mature philosophical musings, discussions of her favorite school subjects, commentaries on current events, clear pictures of the hardships endured in hiding, plenty of healthy self-analysis, and the ordinary yearnings of a 14/15-year-old girl. On top of all this, the writing is excellent and conveys multiple well-developed arcs. Not an ordinary diary by any means!

Reading this book was an incredibly moving experience. I came away profoundly devastated that such a bright, extraordinary person was unjustly taken away so young, yet supremely grateful that she managed to leave us this book, and to live …

From my apartment I can see (and hear) the Westertoren, the bell tower on the Westerkerk ("Western Church"), which is mentioned a number of times in the diary. This church is very close to the Anne Frank House and while reading the diary, it was hard to get over the repeated realisation that this all had happened just over there.

This is a gripping, touching, and ultimately sad first-person story (it's a diary, after all) of a young girl suffering through a hard situation surrounded with horrifying events, while growing up and learning about herself at the same time.

For me, the hardest part of reading this was the references to what she would like to do when the war was over, with the foreknowledge that, for her, that was never going to happen.

I can't believe I had never read this before. Heartbreaking to read about what happened to all of them after their discovery and capture.

I was surprised by this book. I expected more thoughts around being discovered, but in a way it is nice to see that she really was a young girl with hopes for the future. She was annoyed by her perfect older sister and her mom drove her crazy. It could apply to any girl at any time period.

I would be absolutely stir-crazy in the Annex. It's a miracle they didn't get caught sooner. Bad food, no food, no entertainment, strict schedules. You couldn't use the bathroom when you wanted.
I realize those in the concentration camps had it much worse, and it seems Anne did, too. For a young girl, she didn't complain too terribly much about being stuck there. She knew she was fortunate …
