five stars for the Lying Cat

Started a reread, and I didn't think it's been that long but turns out I remember the characters vividly but not the story details so much, so this is a good refresher. The male protagonist feels like the same guy from Last Man, with horns and magic, but it's the collection of characters that really make this one of my favorite if not the favorite comic series. TV Head, Lying Cat, Ghost Girl...and I remember more are on the way so I'll probably continue the reread.

I did not like this, and I don't understand why people make such a big deal about it.

This book has had a lot of hype for years. A lot of what I heard was by people who said, "I normally don't read comics, but Saga is great," or "I normally don't read SF, but Saga is great." Maybe that's the problem because what they praise as SO ORIGINAL was just not exciting to me. Two people from warring factions fall in love (snore). They have a baby who represents great hope for the future (snore). There are creatures who look like animals and spaceships made of trees and a babysitter who's like a ghost, and, and, and... look, that might seem groundbreaking and exciting to you, but it's not exciting for me. And anyway, interesting visuals aren't going to save a story that stinks (and at least in Volume 1, this story stinks).

Finally, this book has a lot of explicit material, and some of it is pretty dark. And look, I know that not all comics are for kids. In this book though, the only purpose it seemed to serve was to suggest that this is a bad time and place to try to raise a child. It seemed like a pretty weak reason to include some of this stuff, and it really wasn't the kind of thing I want to read.

This is the kind of high concept sci-fi/fantasy I have so much time for.

It's the classic 'star crossed lovers trying to start a life away from the man' story, but when the man is a human shaped robot with a TV for a head and the lovers are a remixed angel and demon it all becomes so much more engaging.

I read all 9 volumes but don’t want to rate and review each. I’ll keep this simple. This is one of the best comics I’ve read because the story is just so well told. Brian K. Vaughan tells good relevant stories that are very human and this one is quite loving. Fiona Staples artwork is incredibly expressive and simple and horny. I’m a fan. I look forward to them returning to this series as I hear they're on hiatus now. These characters are brilliant.

Oh dear, I need more of this. The weird sci-fi/fantasy mix with all sorts of wonky races, creatures, and cultures is fantastic. The characters are all engaging and interesting. The TV-people having sex is hilarious.

Guess I'd better go spend way too much money buying the whole series ~

This is the first graphic novel I entirely enjoyed, from storytelling to art. (Ok, I loved Lumberjanes, too, but it has a completely different tone, storytelling and style.) I love the colours, the drawings as such and the story with the well used love-against-all-odds trope. I have already picked up the second volume.

It's not like other mainstream comics out there, at least not like those that i've read! It gives me a 'STAR WARS' kinda vibe (anyone else think that?). The storytelling is attractive and very grippy to frank. But the thing that made me fell in love with this SAGA(!) is it's illustrations. Boy do they make me want more! Those who are thinking of reading it i have one thing to say-STOP thinking and START reading.
I believe it will be worth the time. Now onto the vol. 2. Until then peace.

I got the first two volumes of Saga via a Humble Bundle. I’d heard murmurings of approval before this and it was the main reason I got the comic bundle. I was not disappointed.

I loved the humour and sarcasm. Baby Hazel sort of narrates (she’s telling the story in hindsight, don’t worry). There’s the trials of looking after a baby whilst on the run. I liked that the bounty hunters are 3 dimensional. It might start off with a job for money but ten there is a moral drive to get that money. I also want a Lying Cat. He looks a bit like a very large Devon Rex and will point out whenever someone is lying.

Stunning artwork too. I loved all the different creatures and races. If you’re offended by drawn genitalia, you might want to avoid. There’s not a lot, but there is some. Plus Sextillion …

The story, reliably odd art and emotion of the characters worked for me. I'll look for volume 2. I've read Vaughan before and usually have a fun ride.
