Enter a new frontier.
"An empty apartment, a missing family, that's creepy. But this is like finding a military base with no one on it. Fighters and tanks idling on the runway with no drivers. This is bad juju. Something wrong happened here. What you should do is tell everyone to leave."
The gates have opened the way to a thousand new worlds and the rush to colonize has begun. Settlers looking for a new life stream out from humanity's home planets. Ilus, the first human colony on this vast new frontier, is being born in blood and fire.

The gates have opened the way to a thousand new worlds and the rush to colonize has begun. Settlers looking for a new life stream out from humanity's home planets. Ilus, the first human colony on this vast new frontier, is being born in blood and fire.
Independent settlers stand against the overwhelming power of a corporate colony ship with only their determination, courage, and the skills learned in the long wars of home. Innocent scientists are slaughtered as they try to survey a new and alien world. The struggle on Ilus threatens to spread all the way back to Earth.
James Holden and the crew of his one small ship are sent to make peace in the midst of war and sense in the midst of chaos. But the more he looks at it, the more Holden thinks the mission was meant to fail.
And the whispers of a dead man remind him that the great galactic civilization that once stood on this land is gone. And that something killed it.
I've put this off for so long because I feared the story had taken a direction I didn't like. Luckily I was wrong, as I enjoyed this book very much. I still don't like Holden, but everybody else's POV was just lovely. Anyone who enjoyed the first few books will also like this one.
This is the song that never ends.. people get mad and stick it to their friends! La la la la la..
A year+ away from home, got an entire new planet to populate--space galore, there's no problem here right? HAAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH.. Yea for you to be reading this means you read the previous books. Be ready for it. Don't blink. Doooon't blink.. You blinked. It happens again.
I say it often, I enjoy this series. It frustrates me like my workouts--I know they are good for me, but that last set I really want to quit, I really want to stop. My brain, my body, says stop. But if I do, I know it's not as good for me. So.. you have to finish, and when you do, all the pain and worry eases off you with a nice wave of endorphins.
You get me?

The rings are open, there are worlds to populate but now we have the tension of a first landing squatter set and a corporate contract. Let's all land in the same spot and vie for supremacy via broken psychology, sociopathy, passion, and more. Oh--and Alien Miller is around.. What could go wrong? Wha...
I enjoyed this one more than the previous book although I am starting to feel as if Corey is channeling Tom Clancy a bit. This was an interesting story and it developed the storyline nicely. I'm tempted to start the next book right away (the one reason I am hesitating is because this series is becoming a bit of an addiction).
I could not really say what this book was about, and I didn't enjoy the new characters as much as the ones in the previous books. Still enjoying the universe, and will likely pick up book five when I get a chance, but no top marks from me for this particular one.
