Todos los libros que he leído de King hasta ahora me han enganchado por completo y Carrie ha sido uno más. Empecé a leerlo y, al día siguiente, me sorprendí pensando en la historia en varios momentos, con ganas de continuar. Y eso que es una historia muy conocida. Although a bit jarring at first, i ended up enjoying the changes in format in between the regular storytelling, to express thoughts and other relevant texts about the events. It was nice seeing how the book told the story after seeing all three movies.

Bueno creo que todos conocemos la historia de Carrie de manera mas o menos completa, si no es por la peli es por las miles y miles de referencias culturales a esa historia. A pesar de eso el libro consigue mantener la tensión y está contado de forma sorprendente e intrigante en muchas partes.

As a lifelong Stephen King fan, somehow I’ve never read Carrie. It’s one of those things where I’ve picked up all the plot points through cultural osmosis, I’ve seen the movie (the good one), I’ve talked about it with my friends as though I know about it. But I’ve never held the physical copy in my hands until last week.
I liked it. I don’t really have a ton to say about it. It was an extremely short read, and there were a lot of precursors to what would become eventual King hallmarks – overly religous fanatical whackjobs; bullies that were strangely too smart and/or too psychopathic to be believable; and entire towns being destroyed as a way to end the book like a Lovecraftian cleansing bolt of lightning. Happy to finally have read it.

It’s almost unbelievable, but then it’s just believable enough, because I can absolutely imagine some really cloistered, fundamental Christian parents being like that.
Stephen King always knew how to incite emotion with his writing, and this book is good, but it still feels like a debut novel. It’s better than millions of other debut novels, to be sure, but it’s still a debut novel. The writing’s not as tight, the voice’s not as refined; the editing’s not as good.
Again, I feel like Salem’s Lot was better in those respects. But that might be down to better editing (being the second book to be published, the publisher could’ve been prepared to devote more budget to getting it edited), and anyway it’s unfair to compare them because they’re such different stories.
Anyway, I’m glad I finally read this book. It’s a piece of history. It’s required reading for any Stephen King fan, and it’s given me massive insights into where it all began for the man.

Has King never heard of pacing or editing or even character development? You could say he’s good at world-building except describing a town for 500 pages isn’t what I would call good world-building.
It certainly has it’s creepy moments but ho-ly SHIT was this book long and filled with unnecessary scenes and exposition and I feel like I wasted a good portion of my life trying (several times over several years) to finish this bloody novel. HOW was this thing allowed to get so fucking long??
Did I finish it? Yes. Was I happy that I put effort into finishing it? Not at all.
This book was racist, homophobic, and sexist and before you argue with me, just don’t.
King’s preoccupation with Bev’s 11-year-old body (in particular her breasts and panties) is honestly worrisome and I DO NOT CARE WHAT THE “REASONING” WAS. …

If you think it was necessary for the “plot” then I think you need to go see someone professional to castrate you. Just sayin.
Carrie reads like it is a documentary jumping back and forth between different survivors points of view. You are expected to know what the outcome is, and who doesn't know the story of Carrie? It seems to have been around forever.
I love how the story trickles along slowly revealing bits at a time until the night of the prom and all hell breaks loose. The level of destruction was surprising it was amazing just how much havoc you can case with a little bit of Telekinesis.
A brilliant début novel, I have high hopes for this author, I think he might be a success.
Another classical one that I had never read. This is the story of Carrie, a telekinetic teenager whose powers tend to manifest when she's unhappy. And, since her mother is completely nuts and she's bullied at school, well, unhappiness happens. A distinctive feature of Carrie is that the story is interleaved with miscellaneous articles that explain, quite early, the end of the book. I liked it, because essentially you get to see how you get there, but I've seen it used as a critic "since you know what happens, it's much less interesting".
