A promise made twenty-eight years ago calls seven adults to reunite in Derry, Maine, where as teenagers they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city's children. Unsure that their Losers Club had vanquished the creature all those years ago, the seven had vowed to return to Derry if IT should ever reappear. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that summer returns as they prepare to do battle with the monster lurking in Derry's sewers once more.

Terrible. Bloated. Boring. I gave up after 368 pages. This should not be an 1100 page novel. Of those pages I read, there were maybr 50 interesting pages. People should have to read this book in prison as punishment.
Read this after 15 years, for the movie. Kinda remembered why I put this book down a lot before finishing it, and why I don't remember much of the end. Should've ended with the kids (clearly the best parts), instead we have an 80's reunion that just drags on.
To write a book over 1000 pages you gotta have quite the ego, you must think yourself an amazing writer if you think you can hold a readers attention that long....so how big does your ego have to be to write a HORROR story that is over 1000 pages? King must be one of the only writers with big enough balls to do it....and he comes so close to pulling it off (the story not his balls).
This book is epic and incredibly complex covering two different time-frames and done in such a way that the reader doesn't get lost. I think it will also go down as having one of the most amazing endings ever written, the scale of what he achieves in the last 200 pages is hard to grasp at first, when I finished the last page I suddenly realised just how much mad shit had happened. …

Some very clever, scary writing. What stops it getting 5 stars from me is how drawn out it feels, once I'd finished the book it all felt necessary but still I had to take a couple of breaks to stop myself giving up.
I think this following South Park clip sums up this book perfectly, it contains the reminiscing, the racism and homophobia.
It took a very long time but I finally finished the audio book version of It. I did enjoy it quite a lot but there were some places when it just felt overly long. But, for a book of this size, I imagine it would have to at some point.

It must have been 20 years or so since I read this book. It took me two days, because I just couldn't stop. I was horrified and I loved it. Even the weird parts with the turtle and the gangbang. I might need to read it again to remember what the hell that was about.
I am currently listening to 11/22/63 which features the town of Derry and some characters from It. Less horror, still very thrilling.
For the past month or so I have had the privilege to know some very interesting and lovable people. I've known them throughout their childhood and adult lives. I've played with them, built dams and clubhouses with them, drank with them, ate with them, and smoked with them. I will miss them dearly. Even It, I got to know briefly about where It came from and what Its motivations were for being on this earth. I even got to know Derry (the fictional town in which the book is set) like my hometown, and I feel after all this time that I could get from anywhere in town to anywhere else in town with my eyes closed.
This familiarity is a testament to the incredibly rich writing skills of Mr Stephen King. Every character and every place is entirely believable and entirely consistent, which is no small feat considering there …

This book is meant to be a horror. I must say there are times when I felt "creeped out," but I don't think anything in the book truly scared me - although I definitely felt and identified with the terror the characters were feeling all those times!
This is a story about repressed memories, lost for many years, that come back when the people need to remember, but bury themselves again when the need is done. It's a story about friendship conquering all, but it's also a story about people coming into your life for a purpose, and then disappearing again when the purpose is completed (which is kind of sad).
"It" was the first Stephen King I've actually READ, although I've seen many of the movies... the movie is NOTHING like the book! It won't be the last Stephen King I read, I can promise you that!
I read this one summer when I was little, when I used to stay up all night long reading books. I would close this book at 3 or 4 in the morning and would be too scared to turn off the light. This book made me so scared that I never watched a horror movie or read horror books until I was in high school after this experience. That damn clown . . .
