Dune Messiah Review: Good Continuation, Similar Narrative Style

Much like the first book, I found myself completely absorbed and unable to put it down at the end. The story coalesces much like Paul's prescience, intricately fitting the pieces together to complete the final grand picture. Paul undergoes significant character development between books and during this one; despite this story being perceived as a "bridge" I found his contrast and perspectives intriguing for the overarching narrative.

That said, it's slow to start, and being shorter there was less action/movement than the first. It's riddled with the deep political intrigue we expect, but most of the story is told through dialogue instead of action. It was impossible to put down when in the mood for something deep, but more reprieve would help.

Overall a very worthwhile read... just a bit slow!

I don't really get the hate for this book. It feels essential to the story, and is also a fun read. It's really good if you enjoy political machinations and don't feel like you need to understand everything right off the bat.

It wasn't as exciting as the original, but it was an OK read. The book had it's ups and downs and I had a feeling that author sometimes didn't have a perfectly clear idea of what does he want to achieve, but I had heard that Dune Messiah was sort of bridging work in order to turn standalone book into a series. I guess the future will show if it succeeded.

I enjoyed this one. Though the amount of confusing philosophical paragraphs is increasing. I liked that Paul makes mistakes sometimes. Duncon Idaho's storyline was one I liked reading.

A fun mind bender! I found it both more of a thriller and more introspective. While you definitely still identify with the protagonist in this story, it remains unclear who is good and who is evil, if anyone is. That made it much more interesting to me.
