I have very mixed feelings about this book. It took me a very long time to get interested, and even then, I really wasn't that interested.
As a concept I like the premise. The problem was that I never really cared about or identified with, the protagonist. We are led to believe that he was an ordinary Joe like any of us but when he meets his wife at the hotel after the “incident” and he did acted like this is an everyday occurrence. How am I supposed to relate to someone like that? It was like this for the remainder of the box. I felt like Shadow was sleepwalking though the story.
It also has the problem that, at 624 pages, it's way too long. Personally I think it would have been a terrific 400 page book. Heck, the author's own acknowledgments section starts off with “It's been a …

I felt like someone taking a cab ride in a strange city and given “the scenic route” when all I really wanted was to get to my destination.
Also, I really wasn't that surprised at the “twist” at the end.
All in all, I did not hate the book, but I did not love it either, hence the 3 star rating.
