This is a big, sprawling novel with a lot of different characters and settings, and it's pretty frustrating at first because it seems to drift from place to place without any real structure or meaning. What's especially frustrating is how long we have to watch Shadow stumble clueless through the story, unable to realize something we already know, because of the book's title: that the characters he is dealing with are gods. Eventually things start to come together and by the end the story becomes quite gripping. True to the book's meandering structure, there's plenty of interesting stuff after the climax, as well, which is nice. Overall a great book and I'm looking forward to the allegedly forthcoming sequel.
