Again, I wanted to read this book because of the movie coming up and knowing that many people loved the book. I thought that the movie trailer was really interesting and expected the book to be full of action. Again, I was "disappointed" (which isn't quite the right word and I know that speaking about "The Giver" using an imprecise expression is kind of ironic) because the book was rather different from the trailer. Yet I really enjoyed the plot and finished the book in a couple of hours. Moreover, I found the dystopian world really interesting and thought about what I would do in a community like that a lot.
I couldn't bring myself to give the book 5 stars though because it didn't touch me emotionally. (But I am not part of the target group, I think...)

I would recommend "The Giver" to children aged 9 to 13, people who do not read much and search for a short book, and people who are new to dystopias and want to start with a lighter story. In addition, I do not think that people who prefer dystopias full of action will enjoy this book. However, as I mentioned before it's a very short book so that probably no one will regret reading it.
