'People of Earth, your attention please. This is Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz of the Galactic Hyperspace Planning Council.
Plans for development of the outlying regions of the galaxy require the building of a hyperspatial express route through your star system, and regrettably your planet is scheduled for demolition.
The process will take slightly less than two of your Earth minutes. Thank you.'

I'm currently re-reading the omnibus tome of Adams's Hitchhikers Guide and related novels. The absurdity and grand scale of unexpected nonsense never ceases to bemuse and delight me. Especially in these extremely distressing times, absurdity is a balm for my anxiety.
Read these as a teenager, and they perfectly summarize and encapsulate my sense of humour. Plus the Young Zaphod story with the bit about the space suits and the vomiting, which makes me giggle to this day.
