La Ferme des animaux est un roman allégorique de George Orwell, publié pour la première fois en Angleterre le 17 août 1945. Le livre raconte l'histoire d'un groupe d'animaux de ferme qui se rebellent contre leur fermier, dans l'espoir de créer une société où les animaux seraient égaux, libres et heureux. Dans une lettre à Yvonne Davet, Orwell décrit La ferme des animaux comme un conte satirique contre Staline et, dans son essai intitulé « Pourquoi j'écris » (1946), il écrit que La ferme des animaux est le premier livre dans lequel il a essayé, en pleine conscience de ce qu'il faisait, de « fusionner en un tout l'objectif politique et l'objectif artistique » : A Fairy Story, mais les éditeurs américains ont abandonné le sous-titre lors de la publication en 1946, et une seule des traductions réalisées du vivant d'Orwell l'a conservé. D'autres variations du titre incluent des sous-titres tels que « Une satire » et « Une satire contemporaine ». Orwell a suggéré le titre Union des républiques socialistes animales pour la traduction française, qui abrège URSA, le mot latin pour « ours », un symbole de la Russie. Orwell a écrit le livre entre novembre 1943 et février 1944, alors que le Royaume-Uni était en guerre contre l'Allemagne nazie aux côtés de l'Union soviétique et que l'intelligentsia britannique tenait Staline en haute estime, un phénomène qu'Orwell détestait. Le manuscrit a d'abord été rejeté par un certain nombre d'éditeurs britanniques et américains, dont l'un des éditeurs d'Orwell, Victor Gollancz, ce qui a retardé sa publication. Le magazine Time a choisi le livre comme l'un des 100 meilleurs romans de langue anglaise (1923 à 2005) ; il figurait également à la 31e place sur la liste des meilleurs romans du XXe siècle de la Modern Library et à la 46e place dans le sondage The Big Read de la BBC. I love George Orwell. This is a beautiful allegory of communism through the eyes of a mid-twentieth century writer. It's not hard to see parallels to our current political situation.

The metaphor here is super simple to understand and to transfer for our reality. It is a super good way to detach ourselves from our reality and see some of our political realities take place in a more far and clear way

This tale highlights how an idealistic revolution can turn to a dystopia worse than the oppresion from before. There are many parellels to the story of the Soviet Union which makes it especially interesting for history nerds.

Animal Farm's satire makes the novella interesting to read. Written after Bolshevik revolution and no reason why lot go over gaga. Confining to Bolshevik revolution is tunnel view. The core of the novella resembles with lot of today's politics and ancient kingdom. For a moment forget about the bolshevik revolution. Rebellion outbursts, the leader comes to power and slowly vanquishes non believers in ideas or voices. Slowly becomes benevolent dictator for life, corrupt and power moves from people to few hands. Change the word rebellion to whatever it is/was called during the time period. Isn't this the perfect politics all over the world ? Think of Indian political parties, Tamil Nadu parties. You got it right ? It rises few questions can some one have too much of power ? Rather than human, an organization can have (some say it is already at place) all power at disposal controlled by …

Wow! Orwell is a genius. I'd seen the animate movie years ago and that just doesn't capture what the book is about, I thought from the movie it was about pigs having a laff and a few beers. But this book is a scarily accurate portrayal of those in charge and of how they treat the working folk. I think if Orwell was alive today he would be pretty depressed on how the world has evolved and took his book as a manual.
Such a depressing read and you can't help but feel helpless whilst you read about Boxer. I thought the book was going to be too short, just over 100 pages, but it has been perfectly edited. Orwell is one of my favourite authors, not read anything bad by him.

Interesting fable portraying the abuse of power, and how it corrupts those who possess it: leading to greed, discrimination and betrayal.
After WWII, Russian Communism was consider an ideal form of government and George Orwell tried to show, through his book, that it was not a true socialist society, but a ruthless tyranny. It also addresses the criticism of totalitarianism of any kind (common theme in the works of George Orwell) and examines the movement and handling operations for the historical truth in times of political transformation.
Given the open and universal character of this message, the story transcends beyond time to make a strong criticism of corruption and exploitation in any society.
